Ring Setting Styles

There are numerous ring setting styles for diamonds and colored stones, each reflecting personal taste. Do you prefer something simple or elaborate? Would you choose a large, impactful design or a small, subtle one? Do you favor round, square, or oval shapes? The options are virtually limitless.

Solitaire Diamond ring

The Solitaire Diamond ring, featuring a single stone, is the simplest and most popular choice for engagement rings. Typically, it has four or six prongs holding the central diamond. The band can be flat, half-rounded, fully rounded, tapered, or straight. Explore all these variations at DDS studios.

Side or Shoulder Diamonds

Another popular option includes diamonds set along the band. These side or shoulder diamonds can be bead-set, share-claw set, or channel-set, each creating a distinct appearance.

Halo

The Halo setting, also known as the Cluster style, features a central diamond surrounded by one or two rows of smaller diamonds. These surrounding diamonds can be slightly smaller or significantly smaller than the center diamond, forming a halo or cluster effect.

Three or Five Stone Diamond

For those who enjoy a spread of diamonds across the finger, a three or five-stone ring is a great choice. Typically, the center diamond is larger than the side diamonds, and all stones share the same shape. For a dramatic look, the center stone might differ in shape from the side stones. For instance, a Princess Cut center diamond might pair with Baguettes, or a Round Cut diamond could be surrounded by Princess Cuts.

Vintage-style

DDS specializes in vintage-style engagement rings. Our designers create intricate Art Deco and vintage designs using diamonds and colored stones in various shapes and sizes. We encourage customers to explore vintage styles online and bring a selection of their favorites to us. We can then combine elements from different designs to craft the perfect custom ring.

Contemporary Setting

Contemporary settings often feature bold, heavier designs that highlight both the stones and the metal. Whether using a single stone or multiple stones, the metal itself becomes a design element rather than just a support. These rings can be rounded and flowing, asymmetrical, or defined by sharp, straight lines. The design possibilities are vast, typically featuring denser structures with larger, plain surfaces.
