Design is a very broad subject, but let us look basically at the options.
The first question is whether you want a round diamond or a different shape diamond such as a square Princess cut Diamond or Cushion cut, a Pear shape, heart shape, Marquise or Oval cut diamond. Once you have chosen your preferred look, the next question is what do you want to do with it?
Do you want the ring made in white, yellow, rose gold or Platinum, or a combination of two? If you want a colour combination ring, usually the setting that holds the diamond or diamonds is in white gold and the band is in yellow or rose gold.
The next question is, do you want a Solitaire Diamond ring (using a single stone only) or a cluster or halo, where you have the centre diamond and then diamonds circling around the centre. Alternatively you could have a three or five stone engagement ring, where the diamonds run in a row with the largest diamond sitting in the middle and the side diamonds tapering down in size.
Another consideration is the overall feel and style of the ring. Would you prefer a very fine, dainty engagement ring, a medium weight vintage style engagement ring or a heavier, bold, contemporary engagement ring?
One of the main things to think about throughout the whole process is the size of the diamonds you want to use and the amount you wish to invest, on what will possibly be the most important ring you will ever design and purchase.
